Fantastic concept cars from Ford

As the creators of some of the best-selling and long-running cars in the world, you could be forgiven for thinking that the chaps at Ford were only interested in designing cars that are a dead cert to hit the mainstream, and stay there. And you would be wrong!

Ford Iosis

Ford explained that this coupé's dramatic looks were all down to what it calls "kinetic design" - in other words, it encapsulates the feel and the energy of movement. Its smooth shape and distinctive sculpting are styled to suggest motion would be practically effortless, so much so that it leaves you wondering if perhaps the Iosis could drive off by itself.

The pivoting doors are probably the most startling feature about this quite exceptional Ford, and their clever design means that there is no need for pillars. This means you have loads of space to get into the vehicle, and, more importantly, it looks very, very cool.

Ford Iosis X
As its name suggests, the Ford Iosis X has been created with the same spirit and vision as the Iosis. What the Iosis is to your Ford Focus, the Iosis X is to your Ford Fusion. In other words, it is an SUV-type vehicle with an exciting, sporty design.

Whilst many SUVs can lack character and leave you scratching your head as you try to remember what they look lie, the same definitely cannot the said of the Ford Iosis X. Its chunky yet sporty design and upward slanting windows give it a unique air of agility, almost making it look like an animal waiting to pounce.

Take a look inside the Ford Iosis X, and it feels like you popped your head into a helicopter cockpit. With a crazy centre console and instrument panels which would look more at home a thousand feet up in the air, you cannot imagine a trip in this Ford would be anything near average.

Ford Fairline
And now, as they say, for something completely different. The Ford Fairline is indeed different. Instead of looking forwards for inspiration, the designers have looked back to 1920s, 30s and 40s America.

Designed to appeal to the American market, the Ford Fairline even takes its name from an old model of station wagon. From the outside, its retro looks are immediately apparent, as this vehicle sports a sleek, SUV-style body finished with a polished stainless steeel grille. However, it also has double-ditch side doors and a canvas roof which harks back to the good old days.

The internal design is heavily influenced by times gone by, with wooden veneer around the centre console and a steering wheel wrapped in light brown leather, but is also has a whole raft of new, practical features too. This vehicle is sure to inspire nostalgia in anyone with a fondness for early American cars.
