Environmental 'green box' to cut motoring costs
Multi-million pound 'Formula One' racing technology is coming to the aid of cheap car insurance with a state-of-the-art system to check motorists' driving style.
Using a 'green box' rather than a black one, the environmentally friendly scheme taps computing power to assess how drivers use their engines.
The service is called Green Wheels and has been introduced by motor insurance firm More Than. The box can measure journey numbers, braking, as well as acceleration and deceleration.
Motorists can access details of their personal driving habits using an internet website.
Using energy ratings, drivers can view how drastically their vehicle use is polluting the environment. Suggestions are given to cut their emissions and vehicle use.
More Than spokesperson Dowshan Humzah, said, "Green Wheels is great news for anyone interested in taking more responsibility for their own carbon 'tyre-print'.
"By helping motorists drive more efficiently the 'Green Box' can help cut the cost of motoring which, with fuel prices rising, is top of many motorists' agendas."
So, by helping motorists consider how to reduce car use, many drivers using the scheme are set to enjoy cheaper car insurance in future.
