Drink drivers from Liverpool to risk more than their motor insurance quotes

Drivers from Liverpool who are caught drink driving are going to face more than expensive motor insurance quotes if the Pub Watch team have their way.

Motorists who are convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol on Liverpool's roads will be nominated for a three month pub ban. They will not be able to enter any of the 120 pubs and clubs that take part in the Pub Watch scheme.

Joe Curran, manager of the scheme, commented: "This I believe is a first in the UK where the police and the trade are directly targeting irresponsible individuals who consume too much alcohol and then become over-confident and believe they can drive a motor vehicle."

He also said that he thinks that this will send a clear message to those who drink drive despite the potential consequences to motor insurance quotes.

Corrine Aldous, of the cheap car insurance company duck2water Car Insurance Services, said: "This sounds like a fantastic idea. It really highlights the point that drink driving is not acceptable, even to the people who supply alcohol."
