UK car insurance news - Police warn Peterborough motorists of motor insurance quote consequences of drink driving

Police are warning Peterborough motorists not to drink and drive over Christmas otherwise they will face getting a criminal record, a driving ban and costly motor insurance quotes.

This year there is a concerted campaign in and around the Peterborough area to crack down on drink drivers. Motorists will be breathalysed and may also be asked to carry out roadside tests to test for drugs.

PC Mick McCready, a casualty reduction officer, said: "We will be carrying out the tests everywhere, including Peterborough city centre.

"The message is clear - if you drive while under the influence of drink and drugs, expect to be caught and brought to justice."

Last year, there was a 32% increase in the number of people stopped for driving whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol in Peterborough.

Many of those convicted of drink driving were young motorists, who will face extremely expensive motor insurance quotes once they have served their ban.

Corrine Aldous of cheap car insurance company duck2water Car Insurance Services said: "I really hope this Christmas crackdown will put motorists off drink driving.

"Hopefully it will reduce the number of accidents on the road during the festive season."
