Halifax motor insurance and tax evaders identified by police

Police in Halifax are cracking down on drivers who get behind the wheel without paying for road tax, many of whom have also failed to get motor insurance quotes.

There has been a successful start to the crackdown, with 40 vehicles being clamped or seized by police in the first three days. The owners of these cars must then pay a fine and prove they have up-to-date tax if they want them back.

Sergeant Paul Banerjee claimed that drivers who fail to get road tax are also more likely to drive without motor insurance, as well as commit other kinds of crime.

He said: "By taking [untaxed cars] off the road now we are preventing the criminals from taking them out on the roads to commit other dastardly deeds."

He went on to add that there will be no let up for Halifax road users as the campaign is due to run on a bi-monthly basis.

Corrine Aldous, of the cheap motor insurance quote firm duck2water Car Insurance Services, said: "It simply isn't worth driving without road tax or motor insurance because you are sure to be detected in the end with crackdowns such as this running in towns and cities all over the UK."
