Banned unlicensed cabbie with no car insurance jailed
A bogus taxi driver who escaped jail after leading police on a terrifying 110mph chase through a quiet town has ended up behind bars for driving whilst disqualified.
Reginald Earwaker was banned from the road for two years after admitting dangerous driving in June 2005, but just six months later he was back behind the wheel and driving illegally with no car insurance.
The 49-year-old was initially disqualified by magistrates after attempting to flee from police at over 100mph while acting as an illegal cabbie. Now, fed up with his latest misdemeanour, the same magistrates ordered him to be caged for five months after he admitted to driving with no licence and no motor insurance, failing to surrender to a police officer and possession of cocaine.
Defending, Kevin Warboys told the court that Earwaker was only driving because of a family emergency. He said, "His son has a medical condition that can lead to truly appalling and violent behaviour. On the night he drove while disqualified his son had lost his temper and was smashing up the house."
A spokeswoman from Duck2Water Car Insurance Services, specialists in providing cheap car insurance, said, "There really is no excuse for driving without motor insurance, and the courts are likely to come down hard on anyone who is caught doing it."
