Speed camera threat to cheap car insurance revealed
Recent research has revealed the enormous extent to which being flashed by a speed camera can affect your ability to get cheap car insurance.
According to financial wizards at insuresupermarket.com, anyone with only six points on their licence could see their motor insurance premium as much as triple.
Under the proposed Road Safety Bill, anybody caught going more than 15mph over the speed limit will automatically be given six points, making a fine and expensive car insurance a very real possibility for many British drivers.
It is not only speeding that could contribute to the price of motor insurance, with anybody unlucky enough to be disqualified facing far sterner financial penalties. Cover can be obtained for around £240 with a clean licence, but adding six penalty points can see this cost rise to nearly £720. Nine points and a twelve month ban can see the figure rise to an extortionate £855, insuresupermarket.com claim.
The firm's director, Richard Mason, told how easy it is to lose the right to have cheap car insurance, and said, "When you're in a rush to get home from work at the end of the day, think before you put your foot down.
"Getting caught speeding once is bad luck but twice and you could lose your licence. For car insurance premiums, points really do mean pounds- and lots of them."
