Claims advice for motor cover policyholders after floods

Advice has been issued by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) to UK motor insurance policyholders after a spate of flash flooding in the West Country.

The ABI represents the insurance industry including car insurance companies and, following a range of flood damage at the end of last week, the body sent out a list of guidance to people who may need to claim on home and car insurance.

General insurance director Nick Starling said it was the priority of insurers to deal with claims as fast as possible and advised policyholders affected by flooding to contact their insurance firm.

He said the flooding illustrated the value and importance of protection for householders and car owners.

As well as assuring drivers with comprehensive motor insurance that flood damage would be covered, the ABI also advised how to make claims for damage to homes.
