Cheap car insurance company covers pets

A motor insurance company from America is offering customers cheap car insurance policies with cover for their pets included.

Progressive Corp. believes it has found a gap in the market, as many motorists in America take their pets in the car with them yet no other car insurance firm provides cover for them in the event of a collision.

The Mayfield-based company's pet cover, which is included for free in their cheap car insurance policies, means that up to $500 will be paid out to those whose pets are hurt or killed in car accidents.

A spokesperson for Progressive said: "We found no coverage that was even similar to it. We have pets too, and we know how important they are to our families. We are always looking for new and different ways of delivering value to our customers, and this seemed like a logical extension."

A representative of the Insurance Information Institute also commented: "It's an unusual and interesting benefit. If this becomes popular, I'm sure others may look into it as well."
