BIBA "Really cheap" should not be car insurance priority

Really cheap car insurance is the holy grail of many a frustrated comparison site-clicker, and those who are lucky enough to find a genuinely cheap quote in today's online market generally put it straight into their virtual shopping basket.

However, consumers are now being warned against searching out the cheapest car insurance available, as the standard of cover provided can be far from comprehensive.

"They are just choosing the cheapest possible thing that they can, forgetting that the key areas of cover may not be available under the new contract," complained BIBA's head of corporate affairs, Graeme Trudgill.

His comments came in response to a recent JD Power survey which showed that in the last year, 44% of UK drivers switched provider purely for the sake of a cheaper car insurance policy - and often without paying any heed to the kind of cover provided.

With more hard times ahead, it seems likely that many drivers will continue to switch and renew with only really cheap car insurance in mind – and it could be argued that for all the negativity of Mr Trudgill, we have only the brokers and comparers to blame for this cost-conscious mentality.
