Motor cover to rise 7.5% after fall in profits
Insurance giant Aviva is proposing to increase motor cover rates by around 7.5% - including BMW car insurance premiums - despite recessionary conditions.
Aviva is facing a raft of insurance-related issues - operating profits have plummeted by about 50%; weather-related claims cost the company some £36 million; 5-7% drop in average premiums; and, redundancy provisions.
According to media coverage, Aviva is believed to have made losses of £4m in underwriting - compared to £101m profits in 2007 - for health and general insurance business.
An increase in premiums seems inevitable - that will also see rises in BMW car insurance quotes - because claims rose almost a third last year combined with a large drop in premiums that has occurred over the past five years.
