BMW defies gloom with sales growth in India
While most of the world is reeling from an economic downturn, BMW cars - and BMW car insurance - are enjoying business growth in India.
BMW India is set to more than double sales of the luxury car brand by the end of this year as the Indian market proves more resilient to recessionary winds.
Although the world's financial crisis seems to be impacting sales less in India, growth is forecast to dip in 2009 as the credit crunch continues impacting global commerce.
Managing director Stefan Hulsenberg attributed success to a production line that is "highly flexible", rolling out about a dozen cars daily - from the BMW 3 and BMW 5 series.
Increased development of BMW India is likely. He said, "Higher localisation will happen once we start procuring components from India for our global operations."
And he revealed that the quintessential UK-famed luxury small car, the Mini, may be launched in India in 2010.
Price cuts for Indian models of the luxury marque were ruled out, although motorists searching for cheap BMW car insurance were likely to be successful if they shopped round.
