Toyota car insurance expected in Canada
Toyota drivers in Canada may soon be able to buy official Toyota car insurance thanks to a move by the manufacturer designed to drive up sales figures.
The popular Japanese manufacturer already offers Toyota car insurance in other countries, including France, Thailand, Japan and Germany, but is looking to get its Canadian division selling policies too.
A spokesperson for Toyota Canada said: "If everything goes well, we want to [offer Toyota car insurance] within a year. If the hurdle is higher we have to spend more time."
However, the company would not be able to offer its car insurance policies throughout the whole of Canada, as some areas are controlled by publicly-run insurers rather than private insurance firms.
It is not yet known whether Toyota would use its insurance services to add value to its vehicles and encourage sales or whether it would sell Toyota car insurance as a product to make money in itself.
