Motor insurance company investigates car-buying anxieties

Buying a car is a worry for many motorists, according to a major UK motor insurance company.

AA Insurance found that almost 60% of drivers are concerned that they have a lack of knowledge when it comes to identifying the features they need or want in their car, whilst 59% don't trust any car salespeople.

With just 9% of motorists putting their faith in dealers' advice, most people turn elsewhere in the search of information to wield when choosing and buying their new car. The motor insurance company's research showed that websites, forums and chat rooms are all popular online resources, whilst those not so internet-inclined tend to consult family and friends.

A spokesperson for AA Insurance said: "Purchasing a car can be intimidating for many people, especially if they encounter up-selling and are not sure of what to look for or what questions to ask the dealer.

"Before you buy, it's really important to do your homework and make sure you know what you want, what you're willing to pay and key things to check for."

The cheap car insurance provider also found that other common worries for motorists include paying too much for their vehicle, finding mechanical problems soon after purchase, and illegal practices such as "clocking".
