Downsize your wheels or go online for great deals
A new survey by YouGov Plc has revealed that many drivers who are considering switching to a moped or motorbike suggest that high car running costs like car insurance and fuel are the main reasons they would ditch their motor.
According to the DVLA there has been a year-on-year increase in moped registrations and as many as 4.8 million (13%) of UK car drivers could downsize by a couple of wheels in the coming year as one way to reduce costs during the recession.
Moped riders, or those choosing lightweight motorcycles, can expect a reduction by almost half on their fuel consumption in miles per gallon alongside benefits of cheaper road tax and free parking in many places in the UK.
Insurance for two-wheeled forms of transport can also be cheaper than motor cover.
A spokesperson for duck2water said, "For those out there who just cannot do without four wheels we suggest shopping around for the best car insurance deals.
"Dedicated online car insurance providers, such as duck2water, can often source the cheapest deals possible."
