Students watch car crash demonstration

The threat of a high car insurance quote for young drivers has done little to improve safety on British roads. However the terrifying sights and sounds of an apparent car crash stopped students in their tracks at Queen's University at the start of the week.

Fortunately the people involved in the ‘accident' were only actors trying to raise awareness for Road Safety Week.

The crowd watching the display was told that the crews aimed to get everyone freed and on their way to the hospital within a critical 10 minute period, as every second counts when it comes to head and chest injuries. They were also told that the passenger in the back seat had not been wearing her seatbelt and had died instantly as a result.

A mother of two teenage boys watched and spoke about how worrying it is for her when they are driving around at night and she is unsure whether they are going to make it home or be involved in a road accident.

Reportedly, the two actors involved in the dramatic performance had much more of an impact on the audience than the threat of a high car insurance quote ever would.

One of the actors mentioned that it was a real eye-opener to what the emergency services have to go through every time they visit the scene of a crash.

Demonstrations like these could not only reduce the cost of car insurance, in the long term, by deterring young drivers from dangerous driving, but also save countless lives on UK roads.
