Parents may need insurance for baby equipment

A company who have sold car insurance to people all over the UK recently advised parents against leaving their vehicles unattended with baby toys in full view.

The well established insurers pointed out that car owners are known to have left children's items worth more than £500 on the seats of their vehicles.

Cheap car insurance call centre staff are reportedly used to speaking to distressed customers, who have had their vehicle windows smashed and locks picked by the baby equipment thieves.

The children's belongings which come high on the criminal's wish list include pushchairs, books, spare coats and travel cots. However, parents continue to leave these valuables in their vehicles, often because they don't want the hassle of carrying them to and from their homes.

A motoring expert said, "Baby equipment is expensive so it's important to remember that costly items could be stolen if their car is broken into.

"Parents are very good at making sure they have all the essentials to cater for travelling with young children but they also need to be mindful of car security too."

In related news, a member of the Thatcham International Vehicle Security Award panel has revealed that Volvo owners are particularly unlikely to make car insurance claims. New cars of this type come with some outstanding anti-theft devices.
