Drivers seeking an insurance quote may be faced with new road signs

Motorists seeking out a new car insurance quote annually may have to learn the meanings of a new set of road signs.

The government plans to introduce more 20mph speed zones and give councils more power to instate the restrictions. The new rules could also see new road signs installed and have roads restricted to cars in favour of cycle routes.

Transport Minister Norman Baker spoke out at the Liberal Democrat conference in Birmingham and stated that people who drive distances of less than two miles should walk or cycle instead.

If councils have more power they will be able to change or move irrelevant signs.

He said, "The traffic signs review will also end the need for Whitehall approval for a special range of signs, so councils will, for example, be able to erect "No Entry Except Cyclists" signs without having to ask Whitehall first."

Baker hopes that councils will be able to utilize interactive road signs which can warn car insurance holders about traffic jams and diversions.

If the proposed changes do come into effect, drivers searching for a reasonable car insurance quote may see more road signs appearing across towns and cities.
