Motorway accidents could lead to higher car insurance quote

One motorist on the M6 in Staffordshire is likely to be glad to have suffered nothing more than minor injuries after a lorry ploughed into the back of his car. He may unfortunately lose his no-claims bonus if he chooses to claim for the damage, but should not fall victim to a higher insurance quote after the incident as he was not at fault.

The collision, which appears to be the fault of a lorry driver, caused one of the busiest stretches of motorway in the UK to be brought to a stand-still in both directions.

The lorry driver collided into the back of the car in front, resulting in another heavy goods vehicle jack-knifing across into traffic coming from the north. The cab of the lorry then became separated from its trailer, sending it flying into the air, after catching fire, while the remaining trailer blocked all three southbound lanes of traffic.

Luckily, and remarkably, there were no serious injuries to anyone involved as the lorry driver managed to escape with nothing more than slight injuries to his left leg, while another car driver sustained only minor injuries.

Although currently unreported, there may also have been some unfortunate motorists who rear-ended cars in front of them as they encountered the traffic jam. These drivers may suffer an increase in the cost of their insurance for car payments because they are likely to be found at fault.

Despite some road users perhaps seeing an unwelcome increase in the price of car insurance quotes they receive in the future and some no-claims discounts being lost due to this accident plus the congestion which followed, motorists are probably very thankful that no one was severely hurt or killed in the incident.
