Young motorist given unrealistic car insurance quote.
Car insurance quotes are almost always higher for young drivers, yet a 17-year-old male driver was very surprised when he investigated what it would cost to cover his vehicle.
He had recently purchased a Vauxhall Corsa for £3,000 and was dumbfounded to discover that his car insurance was apparently going to cost him £32,819 for the year with one insurer – eleven times what he paid for the car.
A well-known UK company was responsible for the punitive quote which the young driver was offered while conducting his search on different price comparison websites.
A spokesperson for the comparison website insists that the figure was an accident and never should have been published, commenting , "One of the insurance companies on our panel has produced a quote that just should not have appeared."
According to the company the reasoning behind this figure is that certain insurance companies do not want to be responsible for young drivers, so intentionally inflate the price to an unrealistic amount.
Another reason that the price of car insurance quotes is increasing is that too many fraudulent claims are being made by dishonest motorists who drive up the cost for other drivers.
