Quote warning for Christmas

A festive Christmas warning has been issued to motorists looking for a cheap car insurance quote at this time of year - "don't drink and drive".

A new comparison survey just published this week reveals that many insurers heavily penalise drink-drivers when they go to renew their cover after a conviction.

The strong warning message about insurance for car drivers for the holiday season urges motorists to consider the consequences of drinking alcohol, climbing behind the wheel and subsequently being caught and arrested by the police.

As well as a shameful night in the cells, drivers also must comply with legal tests to assess how much they are over the limit.

For a fuller understanding of the consequences of drink-driving, official statistics show 460 people in the UK were killed in drink-driving accidents in 2007, and a government campaign video by Think! is available to view that highlights how badly life can turn out once caught drink-driving:

According to the survey, top insurers are penalising drink-drivers with a hefty rise in car insurance quotes - in some cases, premiums are not cheap, often double that for law-abiding motorists.
