Drivers risk fines and convictions by 'forgetting' MOTs
Motorists who drive illegally, without valid MOTs in force, risk seeing car insurance quote prices soar if they are convicted of the offence or related driving without insurance charges.
Almost five million drivers forget to renew their MOT at the correct time, according to new research just published, which means their motor cover is automatically invalid too.
By missing their MOT, motorists risk being unable to make claims on policies and could be prosecuted. They also put their own and others lives at risk.
With around half of car owners deciding to postpone new or used car purchases during the current economic climate, it is important to ensure car maintenance is carried out to a good standard for vehicles to pass MOTs.
The study by uSwitch, a price comparison website, revealed more than a third of the 4.7 million motorists who forget their MOTs still take up to a month to obtain a test certificate.
MOT offences can lead to fines, while driving without insurance can mean motoring bans or penalty points on licences, as well as risking car insurance quotes and premiums being higher at renewal times.
