Driver fined for string of motoring offences
A motorist who had failed to get a car insurance quote and buy cover for his vehicle was caught drink-driving by police in the Scottish lowlands.
When traffic cops stopped the factory worker as he was driving along a road in Hamilton, south Lanarkshire, Scotland, he was so drunk he fell out of his car on to the ground.
The drink-driver was found to be nearly three times over the legal limit and had to be held in custody overnight. The court sheriff decided the driver had been in a "disgraceful condition" and the case was a serious public safety matter.
The Polish man, aged 28, admitted drink-driving, and driving with no insurance and without a licence after being spotted by police swerving from one side of the road to the other.
He was fined a total of £600, although had he bothered to apply for a car insurance quote he could have avoided a £200 fine for driving without insurance.
