Growing number of fraudulent claims rejected by insurers
Drivers applying for car insurance quotes have been advised to supply correct information on application forms or risk having claims rejected.
The warning advice comes after news that 30 per cent more insurance claims were turned down last year because motorists failed to disclose correct information about cars or their driving history.
Many motorists supply false addresses, omit previous claims, fail to provide information about vehicle modifications and do not disclose previous convictions.
Fronting has been discovered to be a key reason for the rejection of many claims. This is when drivers aim to reduce the cost of car cover by naming people as main drivers when they are not. Insurance companies have discovered this often happens when young or inexperienced people are, in fact, the true principal driver.
AA Car Insurance director Simon Douglas said, "Not telling the whole truth amounts to fraud and can result in your cover being voided, possible prosecution and potentially thousands of pounds in costs, especially if there are injuries involved."
One customer who tried to deceive an insurer by fronting ended up with a bill for £12,000 after his son had a road accident.
Best advice when deciding to proceed with a cheap car insurance quote is for customers to double check they have supplied all required information and that it is true and correct.
