Quotes higher in accident hot spots across UK
Accident hot spots around the UK have been identified in a new study, indicating the likelihood of higher car insurance quotes in certain areas.
Hundreds of thousands of policy claims were examined over the past three years to determine the 10 riskiest and 10 safest cities and towns for motorists.
Top of the danger blackspots for drivers was Slough, Berkshire. Second most risky was Ilford, a town in the county of Essex, and in third place was the city of Birmingham in the West Midlands.
The top three towns and cities identified as the safest places in Britain were all outside England, with Belfast proving to be the place where motorists were least likely to have an accident.
The motor cover data research showed that claims in Slough were almost 50% higher than the national average. In contrast, Belfast was 44% below the UK average. Second safest was Swansea, while Aberdeen was in third position.
The study was carried out by Endsleigh. A spokeswoman said, "Drivers need to be even more vigilant leading up to Christmas when there are usually a greater number of vehicles on the roads and when weather conditions can be extremely hazardous."
Drivers have been advised to drive safely during the festive season to stay accident-free and enjoy better, cheaper car insurance quotes at renewal times next year.
