Naked drink driver faces costlier car insurance quotes
Cheap car insurance quotes are likely to be a struggle for a drink-driving motorist who was found completely naked in a field after escaping from a police van.
The motorist, a 28-year old from near Preston, admitted drink driving, driving without motor insurance, and several other non-motoring offences at Preston Magistrates' Court.
The prosecution explained to the court what had happened when the man was apprehended in a lay-by by police.
She said: "Police arrested him and put him in handcuffs, but they had to stop the police van when they heard him violently smashing the cuffs on the side of the van as they thought he could cause himself harm.
"They found he had removed the cuffs. He became violent and tried to escape. At this point one officer tried to restrain him during which the defendant's shirt was ripped off.
"He ran through a river and up a steep hill. He was then seen at the top of a field. At this point the officer in the case says he was totally naked."
Although the case was adjourned before sentencing, the judge warned him to expect a custodial penalty. However, even after his prison sentence is served, he is likely to see an effect on his car insurance quotes for years to come.
