Community service for chef caught drink-driving
Future car insurance quotes are likely to be more expensive for a chef who drove his girlfriend's Renault Megane after drinking alcohol while over the legal limit.
The 21-year-old admitted drink-driving, careless driving, driving without insurance and taking a motor vehicle without consent.
Magistrates were told the chef went to his girlfriend's car to pick out some CDs. However, he decided to take the car for a spin, crashing it through a farm gate.
The chef's defence solicitor said his client accepted his actions were stupid and he had made a clean breast of the situation, owning up to the offences.
He was banned from driving for 17 months, ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid community work and required to pay court costs of £60.
Insurers are now tending to dramatically increase cheap car insurance for motorists convicted of drink-driving offences. The chef said he is not intending to drive again so will not be looking for a car insurance quote.
