'Check car cover' call as driving abroad increases
Driving holidays are growing in popularity, reveals new research, leading to more motorists requiring cheap car insurance rates that include travel abroad.
And the news has prompted insurance companies to call for drivers to check their policies to ensure they are covered for international motoring.
Holiday disasters caused by problems at the new British Airways Terminal Five earlier this year have led 10 per cent of UK people to plan to travel by car in Europe this summer.
And, according to other findings in the study by the Association of British Travel Agents, almost a third have been considering a caravan break.
Camping is also on the motoring holiday agenda with more than a quarter (27 per cent) planning nights under canvas.
Insurance firm Duck2water has hailed the research as good news, showing Britons were apparently unbowed by economic turbulence and still planned to enjoy a holiday.
A spokesperson for Duck2water, cheap car insurance experts, said, "Holidaymakers must check they have car cover in place to avoid their annual getaway turning into a calamity."
