Doncaster school runs get new road regulations
Tougher road regulations outside schools could improve child pedestrian safety and ease car insurance claims after car accidents, or so it is hoped by local government chiefs in Doncaster.
At the start of the new school term, parents on school runs to the borough's schools will face a fine if they ignore new rules put in place to keep school entrances clear of traffic.
Doncaster Council will be enforcing new road regulations that will make it illegal for cars to stop on yellow zig-zag lines outside schools.
In the past, zig-zag markings were merely guidance for road users and the local authority had no power to issue punishment to the thoughtless drivers who insisted on parking on them.
Under the new Traffic Regulation Order, from September 1st, wardens will be able to issue a £60 fine to those who park on the lines between 8am - 9.30am and 3pm - 4.30pm.
Doncaster Council's Director of Neighbourhoods, Jane Miller, said: "The car journey to and from school can become dangerous if people park thoughtlessly outside school entrances or become distracted whilst at the wheel."
A duck2water online car insurance spokesperson said, "Drivers who repeatedly risk causing a car accident could find that a driving offence will affect their motor cover quote. New road regulations, particularly outside establishments for vulnerable people, could be a good way of ensuring safer driving."
