Cheap car insurance survey
UK motorists are saving money by buying cheaper car insurance and cutting other road bills as they sell or switch cars in the recession.
More than three out of every five drivers who downsized vehicles did so to reduce petrol and diesel costs while almost three in ten chose different cars to save on road tax.
About 15 per cent were not so money conscious, saying they chose an alternative vehicle for green eco-friendly reasons. However, almost 20 per cent got rid of one of their cars to permanently cut costs from household bills.
The findings were revealed in a survey carried out recently by an insurance company. Nearly a quarter of drivers would switch cars to save on their car cover, the study also showed.
Second hand purchases are proving more common although the knock-on effect on the UK car industry has seen new car sales drop by about 600 every week, almost a third less than sales at the end of 2007.
UK car owners keen to pick up cheaper car insurance quotes and premiums should consider buying second hand; downsizing vehicles to one of the popular makes with smaller engines.
