New technology saves police and road user's time

Being stuck in traffic is one of the most common reasons for stress behind the wheel of a car, sometimes resulting in road accidents, however, drivers may be able rest easy that their cheap car insurance should not increase in price due to a traffic jam crash thanks to a new government technology.

This technology should help reduce the time that motorways are closed after a crash through the use of 3D laser scanning. The equipment is being issued to 27 police forces across England in a £2.7 million deal.

Police can now save time by quickly making a 3D image of the crash site, rather than investigators having to painstakingly survey multiple sections of the site.

The digital image of the crash site can then be viewed by a computer screen remotely, allowing the investigators to work out measurements such as the relation the vehicles had to each other as well as examining other important evidence.

The new technology should save both police and road users' time as it is estimated to reduce the amount of clear up time by an average of 39 minutes. This may help reduce stress levels on the roads, saving money on car insurance in the long run due to a more efficient clear up and fewer traffic jam stress-related collisions.
