Cheap cover now not possible for drink driver dad
A Worthing man will find it hard to obtain cheap car insurance after being found guilty of driving with over four times the legal limit of alcohol in his system recently.
The 36-year-old had his children, aged seven and two, in his car at the time of the two-vehicle collision in which a Worthing woman's car was written off.
In mitigation, the court heard that the male driver's issues with alcohol began after his sister died in 2005.
A probation officer told the court that the driver was "extremely remorseful" and was seeking bereavement counselling whilst also attempting to address his alcohol problems.
The driver was given a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for one year, and was banned from driving for 30 months. He also received a 12 month supervision order and must also undertake 150 hours unpaid work, a drink-impaired driver's course and was ordered to pay £70 court costs.
The other driver involved was outraged at the sentence and spoke to local press about the accident.
"My life flashed before my eyes and I realised he was going to come head-on into me and it was going to hurt.
"It's made me scared to drive and I think he should have gone to jail for what he did," she said
A spokesperson for duck2water, specialist providers of cheap car insurance, said, "To get a good deal on your motor cover policy a full no-claims bonus is essential. Car insurance providers are likely to penalise you for endorsements and motoring convictions."
