Drivers risk losing in-car gadgets costing more than £200
Many UK drivers aged over 50 years old own in-car gadgets totalling more than £200 each, according to a new survey - and they are likely to not be covered by cheap car insurance policies.
Often the items are left on display in vehicles - yet most motorists fail to realise that they could be unable to claim if thieves break in because the value of portable items is above the £100-£200 level of cover provided by most motor insurers.
In the study of motorists in their 50s and over carried out by Saga Motor Insurance, 22 per cent were found to have individual gadgets in their vehicles that were worth more than £200.
Across the UK, Saga found that drivers kept a total of about £3.8bn worth of expensive accessories and electronic goods in their cars.
Saga said motorists over the age of 50 tended to take more care and lock valuables out of sight or remove them from the car altogether.
A company spokesman said it was advisable for motorists to check cover levels on cheap car insurance policies in case vehicles were broken into.
