Cheap car insurance firm urges drivers to hide keys
A cheap car insurance company is urging motorists to hide their car keys in order to avoid being targeted by thieves.
Saga Motor Insurance found that one in ten UK drivers do not bother to store their car keys discretely, keeping them somewhere that could be easily seen through a window.
However, more than one in three were more security conscious and told the cheap car insurance firm that they kept their car keys hidden away in a secret place in their home.
A spokesperson for Saga Motor Insurance said: "It might not be the first thing on your mind when you come home, but drivers should get into the habit of putting their keys somewhere out of sight; leaving them on display makes them an easy target for the opportunist thief."
The research also revealed that older motorists were more likely to protect their cheap car insurance premium by taking security precautions. Its findings showed that just 13% of young drivers thought about where they left their keys, compared to around 20% of drivers aged 50 or over.
