Rusty motorists risking cheap car insurance

Nearly a million motorists in the UK show signs of "rusty driver syndrome", according to a cheap car insurance company.

In a study by Churchill Car Insurance, two in five motorists who don't get behind the wheel regularly admitted that they do not think that their driving isn't up to scratch.

A lack of confidence in driving skills is something from which it seems many infrequent drivers suffer, with nearly half of the motor insurer's interviewees saying that they don't feel comfortable with busy urban routes.

A spokesperson for the cheap car insurance provider said: "Motorists getting back behind the wheel after a break from driving can find it daunting. Drivers need to be able to handle a range of different road and traffic situations, which only regular practice can help with.

"When motorists pass their driving tests, it doesn't necessarily qualify them as a confident driver."

The Churchill Car Insurance spokesperson went on to advise motorists who feel that their driving skills are a bit rusty to undertake a refresher course such as those offered by Pass Plus to build their confidence and keep them safe on the road.
