Cheap car insurance comparison sites differ substantially

Defaqto has carried out a telling study into the comparison sites which offer cheap car insurance quotes from a number of motor insurance providers.

With websites which compare car insurance quotes behind 10% of UK motor insurance policies sold, it is clear that sites such as uSwitch, Moneysupermarket.com and Confused.com are becoming increasingly important to consumers.

However, the market research group Defaqto discovered that there are quite significant differences between the prices you will find at each of the online car insurance comparison sites.

For example, Confused.com came up with £367.28 quote for a certain insurer, whilst Moneysupermarket.com gave £248.13 for the very same policy with the same insurer.

The research also looked into which of the cheap car insurance sites would serve motor insurance customers the best. Tesco Compare was given the highest score - 87% - for its accurate and user-friendly quote system. It was particularly praised for the feature which lets up to four cheap car insurance quotes to be directly compared.

Defaqto's research rated Insurancewide.com with the worst performance of all the XX60XX comparison sites, which was in part down to the poor presentation of information.
