Cheap car insurance firm reveals sat nav cover issue
A cheap car insurance company from Darlington has warned drivers that they may not be covered by standard motor insurance if their sat nav system is stolen.
Research undertaken by BiB Darlington revealed that many motorists would not be able to claim on their car insurance policy should thieves target their sat nav device.
It found that whilst some standard insurance policies do cover sat nav systems that are built into the car by the manufacturer, many others do not. Drivers with the latter kind of policy will need to arrange special cover if they want their sat nav to be insured.
BiB Darlington revealed that it carried out the study after one of its commercial customers had his sat nav stolen. He tried to claim under his motor policy but could not, and the cheap car insurance firm felt it should bring the issue to public attention.
