Police target drivers with no cheap car insurance

Many motorists in the Hartlepool area who failed to buy cheap car insurance - or in fact any other car cover - had their vehicles confiscated in a major crackdown by police.

Drivers had their cars impounded after being caught driving without insurance or with no driving licence.

The police say they plan to continue the campaign to seize vehicles from drivers who break the law, warning that motorists must realise that they cannot drive without cover or required documentation.

Over three months, police have removed 65 vehicles from the road. Given that motorists can apply for cheap car insurance online or via high street brokers, the authorities believe there is no excuse for failing to have insurance for car drivers.
