Regular maintenance checks will prevent breakdowns
Motorists risk seeing their cheap car insurance premiums rise when they fail to regularly check under the bonnet of their vehicles, a vehicle manuals publisher has warned.
Haynes Publishing advises that leaving maintenance checks just to times when cars were serviced could lead to break downs and claims on insurance for recovery services.
Money and time could be saved by conducting basic engine maintenance in between visits to the mechanic.
Haynes believes routine checks can be carried out by anyone and that drivers need not fear that modern vehicles are too difficult to work on for the average motorist.
A spokesman for Haynes said, "Routine tasks can be done by anybody - if they know what they are doing."
Failing to do this could lead to a rise in cheap car insurance quotes and premiums as stranded motorists were forced to use breakdown recovery services on their policies.
