November poses risk to cheap car insurance premiums

Norwich Union has revealed that the beginning of November is one of the worst times of year for people who want to keep hold of their cheap car insurance premiums.

According to the UK motor insurance company, more people have to claim on their car insurance due to a combination of Hallowe'en and Bonfire Night celebrations and the effects of the hour change.

The clocks going back has long been linked with an increase in road accidents, and a spokesperson for Norwich Union advised motorists to adapt their driving behaviour in order to avoid a claim on their motor insurance policy.

He said: "For many [motorists], this will be the first time driving home from work in darkness for some time, and extra caution and awareness is required."

However, the cheap car insurance company also point out that Bonfire Night and Hallowe'en play a part in the 15% increase in claims at this time of year. According to its statistics, there is around a doubling in the amount of vandalism to vehicles on these nights, as well as accidents involving out of control fireworks and fires.

The Norwich Union spokesperson advised motorists to avoid related car insurance claims by parking their car in a garage or in an out of the way location.
