Cheap car insurance if customer is in a relationship
In the USA, having a partner could get you more than love and affection from them, it could also lead to cheap car insurance.
Such was the case for one Californian, who works in marketing, who realised that his new car insurance quote was $200 (£124) cheaper after he added his girlfriend onto the cover.
Insurance companies, in the UK as well as the USA, have always seen women drivers as being safer on the roads than men but it would appear that a man who is connected romantically to a woman is more careful as well. As a result of these statistics, couples are generally seen as being at a lower risk of causing a road accident than single people.
A Colorado-based insurance company produced the statistic that men receive, on average, a 10% drop in their insurance once they have added their girlfriend or life partner to their insurance.
Apparently, there are some insurance agencies in the US which will cut the insurance costs still further if the couple is married.
This useful cheap car insurance saving is received on the condition that both individuals who make up the couple are safe drivers.
Many UK insurers offer similar discounts, but it would be wise to check your partner's driving record to ensure that he or she has a clean licence before being added to the insurance, otherwise the price is liable to rise instead of reduce.
