Most drivers believe that they act responsibly

UK drivers, including those with cheap car insurance, must act in a responsible manner when behind the wheel if accident rates are to fall, according to the charity RoadSafe.

This announcement has been made subsequent to research by Brake which showed that over 66% of drivers are concerned about being involved in a crash. However, only 1% of drivers are prepared to accept that they are not as safe as the average motorist.

Adrian Walsh, Director of RoadSafe, reported that it is "both a legal and moral requirement" for people to make sure that they don't develop bad motoring habits, and to travel on the roads with safety in mind.

The recently released Report on Safe Driving 2009-2011 revealed that the vast majority of people with car insurance have broken the speed limit. Many others say that they've driven despite feeling sleepy.

Julie Townsend, Brake Campaigns Director, said, "Being over-confident and believing you can get away with risk-taking is a really dangerous attitude behind the wheel.

"It's time everyone took it upon themselves to play their part in making the roads safer, instead of just pointing the finger at others."

A spokesperson for duck2water, specialists in providing cheap car insurance, commented, "With so many cars on the road these days and so many of us driving every day of our lives, it is easy to forget the inherent dangers of road travel. Risky driving behaviour is a great social irresponsibility and those guilty of its practice should be named and shamed."
