Cover costs rising in Northern Ireland by 10-12 per cent
Cheap car insurance rates in Northern Ireland are set to be impacted after one of the UK's leading motoring organisations forecast rises of between 10 and 12 per cent.
Comprehensive cover prices are predicted to increase by about £50 as a result. The AA (Automobile Association) say higher quotes and premiums are also possible.
With unemployment on the rise, petrol prices increasing and firms cutting pay, consumers are likely to be suffering. Insurance for cars in Northern Ireland is already proven to be higher than other parts of the UK.
Figures show that motor cover policies cost some £300 more in the country. It is also believed that the cost of cover is unaffordable for about 33 per cent of its drivers seeking insurance.
Far from enjoying cheap car insurance, the country's Consumer Council has found that motorists in Northern Ireland annually pay over £135 million more than other UK road users.
