Man forsakes cheap car insurance quotes in high speed chase

A man who drove at 95mph through Halifax town centre is unlikely to be granted any cheap car insurance quotes in the near future after receiving a three year driving ban.

The 21-year-old, who was already serving a ban for drink-driving, was spotted speeding through Halifax streets in his Peugeot by police, who turned on their blue lights and followed him.

He proceeded to lead them on a high speed chase through the centre of the city, taking junctions at speeds of up to 90mph, driving the wrong way down one-way streets, and skipping red lights.

He was eventually caught after abandoning his car, when thermal imaging sensors identified a figure hiding in bushes.

At Bradford Crown Court, the judge described his driving as "suicidal" and said: "You drove throughout the 30mph limited areas at speeds over 95mph to avoid the police.

"This was an appalling, audacious piece of driving."

The man was convicted of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without motor insurance, and was jailed for nine months and disqualified from driving for three years.

However, even after this period is over and he is allowed behind the wheel once more, his conviction history means that he is unlikely to see any cheap car insurance quotes for quite some time.
