Dundee drivers get cheapest car insurance quotes

Motorists in Dundee could be enjoying the cheapest car insurance quotes in the UK, according to research by moneysupermarket.com.

The study revealed huge differences between motor insurance premiums in different areas of the UK, with almost £200 separating the average car insurance quotes of the cheapest and the most expensive areas.

For research purposes, the quotes gained were based on a motorist aged between 25 and 45 who drives a 2001 Ford Focus.

Dundee drivers enjoy the cheapest motor insurance, averaging just £116.26 and are closely followed by Aberdeen (£126.85) and Exeter (£130.39). These cheap car insurance premiums contrast with quotes for motorists from East London, which average at £315.01, Bolton (£311.47) and Liverpool (£300.28).

A spokesperson for the online car insurance comparison site said: "It is not surprising premiums are high in the inner city area of East London, where crime can be prevalent. Car insurers look at the rate of car crime, the type of car you drive, your age and whether your areas has drivers classed as 'high-risk' or particularly prone to accidents.

"The gap between the most expensive and cheapest insurance areas is likely to widen as providers continue to load premiums in big city areas and urban areas considered to be 'at risk'," he predicted.
