Quotes should benefit from conviction, says solicitor
A leading solicitor has said that the recent conviction of a gang of car accident claim fraudsters can only spell good news for the future of cheap car insurance.
He said that alongside legislation to be introduced in 2010 the scammers' convictions should help ensure that honest policyholders are not made to subsidise the cost of paying out for fraudulent claims; the result: cheap car insurance for honest policyholders.
"The conviction. is a very welcome development because individuals such as this give claimants a bad name, and cause insurance premiums to rise," he said.
"Along with the new legislation which is due to come into force in April 2010 to introduce fixed costs and quicker, fairer settlements for road traffic accident claims, show that the tide is finally beginning to turn in favour of genuine claimants," he added.
Some have warned however, that a more expedient claims resolution system does not necessarily guarantee cheap car insurance for all customers. There is little doubt that it will still be important for drivers to shop around for cheap motor insurance quotes.
