Roundabout advertising could pose cheap car insurance risk

Members of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) are warning that roundabout advertising could be putting drivers' cheap car insurance rates at risk.

A spokesperson for the CPRE said that the organisation was worried by the proliferation of unauthorised sponsorship signs that have been appearing on roundabouts across the UK in recent years.

The CPRE claims that the signs clutter up roundabouts and can also be very distracting for motorists, possibly resulting in accidents and motor insurance claims.

The planning campaigner for the CPRE said: "The government and the RAC Foundation have clearly stated that we need to get a grip on roadside clutter because of damage to our countryside and the threat to road safety.

"Local councils need to go through the planning process - and give proper consideration to the views of the public," he commented.

Corrine Aldous, of the cheap car insurance company duck2water Car Insurance Services, said: "We are constantly being told that there are too many signs on the UK's roads and that motorists' senses are being bombarded with too much information.

"However, these sponsorship signs are often quite small and unassuming, and I can't imagine that many drivers find them overly distracting."
