Cheap car insurance sites reveal breaches

According to UK newspaper The Times, two websites offering cheap car insurance services have been involved in confidentiality breaches.

Popular sites Confused.com and GoCompare.com, which provide online car insurance quote comparisons, both told the paper that there have been instances where personal data protection contracts have been broken.

Confused.com said that some of the companies that it provides motor insurance quotes from have been using cheap car insurance customers' information to sell to them directly, whilst GoCompare.com reveals that one of its brokers passed on personal information to a third party.

A spokesperson for GoCompare.com said: "We have been very stringent with companies and run daily tests, so we were disappointed to have been stung."

A duck2water Car Insurance Services' representative also commented: "It is extremely difficult for consumers to have control over where their personal data ends up and confidentiality breaches such as those revealed by Confused.com and GoCompare.com do not help."
