Cheap car insurance rates unaffected by crashes with a phantom peacock

Motorists driving along a quiet East Sussex road at night have recently started to report accidents happening in very strange circumstances, although luckily these incidents won't affect their cheap car insurance premiums.

On two consecutive nights, the East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) has been called out to deal with collisions with a ghostly peacock on the A267, near Five Ashes.

The first incident happened on Hallowe'en, when a lady called WRAS panicking because she believed she had hit the bird. However, when she inspected her car, she could find no trace of it.

The second spooky going-on happened the following night. A lorry driver telephoned the rescue service, convinced that he had crashed into a peacock on the very same stretch of road. He was found searching around underneath his lorry, desperately trying to find the peacock.

Trevor Weeks, co-ordinator of the rescue event, said: "We checked the wheel arches, looked at the road for signs of blood and feathers but could not find any trace of the bird.

"This is really odd. I'll be interested to see if we get another call tonight."

Although the vanishing peacock has not yet caused an actual accident, there are fears that it could make a driver panic and crash into something, ending in an expensive motor insurance claim. So, to protect motorists' cheap car insurance premiums (and the peacock - if it exists), WRAS is warning late-night drivers to be careful of any peacocks that may or may not be running loose on the A267.
