Parents warned of dangers of fronting

Parents trying to get cheap car insurance for their children by "fronting" have been warned that they will not be covered if their children have an accident while driving.

A recent campaign to highlight the dangers and legal consequences of fronting is aimed at reducing the number of parents who fraudulently name themselves as the main driver of their children's cars in a bid to save them money.

Research has found that the number of parents fronting has increased in recent years as cheap car insurance for young drivers is so hard to find. However, many parents are not aware of the legal implications of lying on the insurance documents, which could include a court summons.

A spokesperson from Duck2Water car insurance said, "If your child has a car accident and injures a third party, the insurer could refuse cover, potentially leaving the parent liable for hundreds of thousands of pounds in costs."

Cheap car insurance for young drivers is not easy to find with premiums averaging at a staggering £2,000. However according to the Motor Insurers' Bureau, this figure accurately reflects the risk posed by young motorists.
